14. Suspension Bridge in Kawarau Gorge

Situated in: South Island, New Zealand's Otago Founded in 1880 Expense: $1–$5 million * The world's first commercial bungee jumping site was the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge. It passes across the Kawarau River in New Zealand's Otago region. The AJ Hackett Bungy Company uses the bridge. It is a section of the well-known Queenstown Trail in New Zealand, which allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross the Kawarau River.

Mining access to the Central Otago goldfields was facilitated by the bridge. The Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge became a tourist attraction and a Category I historic place in 1963 when a roadway was built next to it.
